My Furbaby Pack

Hi Everypawdy it’s me Miss Squeak a lot has happened since I last did a blog! 

Wow we now have 3 new furbabies in our pack! Yup that makes 7 sweet little furry friends.

I know that might sound crazy to some but it works great for us! 

I pride myself in the fact that they are all very well balanced, 

They get walked every day and and have all been trained too, so that’s a bonus! 

I would say the biggest thing you can teach your furbabies is recall! 

All our furbabies can free run with confidence, as we know that if we give a command, 

they will come back with their tails wagging. We are sure to make the training sessions

fun and exciting for the dogs, to begin with I used high value treats and now 

I can just use the command or hand gestures! We have only one male in the pack and 

he (Sir George) is a shihtzu and almost ten years old, then we have Miss Mildred (Guildy Polly Pocket Princess) she is a pure pedigree smooth coat chihuahua and she will be 6 this year, 

then we have SoSo she is a chihuahua x poodle and will be 4 this year 

then we have Vinyl-Violet (Pirate Puppy) she is a chihuahua with one eye and is 3 this year, 

then with have our two litter sisters Myrtle-Mayhem (Mert the turt) and SiSi (Head with Legs)

they are chihuahua x silky terrier and will be 2 this year and couldn’t look any more different, no one would guess they are sisters, then we have the baby of the pack SuSu she is a long coat chihuahua and will be 2 this year too! I will share a few pictures of them so you can see how cute they all are!

Tips For Preventing Your Chihuahua From running away

Have them spayed or castrated 

Teach them a 'recall' command, such as "come here Amos!"

Use treats as a reward once your Chihuahua successfully obeys your recall command

Never punish or scold your Chihuahua for running away, as this sort of negativity will only encourage this unwanted behavior.

Walk your Chihuahua on an extended lead or retractile leash till they obey on your recall command

Show your Chihuahua tenderness and love on a day after day. 

Now as you can see from all the pictures, we are lucky to have some wonderful and amazing likeminded friends that have some adorable sweet chihuahua's that come and have regular playdays. 

This has helped with Miss Mildred, Vinyl-Violet and Sir George and their recall as I use a noise that they all come too. 

Miss Mildred is able to free walk as she sees myself as her leader, 

Vinyl-Violet is still learning what our pack walk is all about so when we are in a area,  where they are unable to get to the road or run off into the bush (normally in the middle of the oval) I allow  Vinyl-Violet and Sir George the freedom of free walking yet they are still attached to leads, and they do come back when called so things are going great, and before long they too well be able to be trusted like their sister, Do you allow your furbabies to free walk?

Miss Squeak Talks Are Chihuahua's Easy To Train?

 Miss Mildred had her first dress waiting for when she came home, it was a light black and white cheese cloth dress and she looked so very cute in it and she never even worried about having it on and that is where the dressing up started, 

I also wanted her to wear shoes to protect her paws from the hot ground in summer so we started with a little pair of yellow sandles.  
At first she was a bit unsure of them as 
they were a somewhat too big but I would just
 put them on her for five minutes at a time then take them off just so she would learn that they were okay to wear and I would also treat her with chicken so it was a positive 
experience for her. 

And now she has gumboots, uggboots and sandles  and she loves wearing them all. 
Now she won't go outside on cold or wet ground without her shoes!

Now what else have I done to train my sweet little chihuahua! I have taught Miss Mildred to stop barking once she has let me know someone is at the door. Now this was a challenge for her and it was very hard to redirect her energy so we started very slowly and got other people in the house to knock at the door and as soon as she would start barking I would say "who is there" and then say on your mat and we have done this every time someone was at the door and now its like 

Miss Mildred has a job and we only have to say the command words and it now stops! But this did take a long time to get this result, so be understanding when trying to train your little furbaby! I wish you luck.

Are Chihuahuas easy to train?

It depends on what you wish to train them to try and do. Potty training a Chihuahua may be terribly troublesome – if truth be told, Chihuahuas are one in all the most troublesome breeds to educate.

2. Feeding Times - feed your Chihuahua at set intervals. Never let the dog determine when it wants to eat. This seems trivial, but it shows the dog who makes the decisions in the household, and that he needs to conform.

3. Walking - walk your Chihuahua two times a day or more, but be sure to control the walk. Do not let the dog pull or dictate the direction you are going to go. When training a Chihuahua, leash control is vital.

4. Bouncing and Furnishings - With a tiny dog like a Chihuahua, you can easily let the dog get up on furniture whenever it wants. However, control of your space is important to imposing limitations. Never respond to barking or whining and set restrictions on what furnishings the dog is allowed.

5. Entering and Exiting - overlook your dog when you come and go from the house. Only take notice of the Chihuahua when it reaches a calm, relaxed state.

What to Teach Your Chihuahua

When training Chihuahuas, owners should keep in mind that patience is absolutely essential. Avoid training when you're tired or angry. Take it just one step at a time and be sure to keep your treats ready before you start your lessons. In the home, it's important that the Chihuahua is potty trained at an early stage.

You can put your dog on a table while teaching these commands as it can be tiring if you have to bend all the time.

Crate training is also recommended. This should teach them the right place to poop in the house. See to it that you bring the puppy to the box after eating, waking up or whenever you see him circling. You can use newspapers as well, but be sure to change the used ones.

How to Handle Your Chihuahua

The number one rule in handling Chihuahuas is to always be gentle with them. Remember not to use choke collars on a Chihuahua as their necks can easily get hurt. A good option is to use the flat buckle collar or harness to protect its trachea.

Exercise should be a priority and if possible, it must be done on a daily basis. However, it may not need long walks as this breed is already energetic in nature so running around an apartment is usually enough exercise for the dog.

If you want to take your small dog for a walk during cold weather, be sure to let him wear a sweater as toy breeds are usually very sensitive to cold temperatures. Avoid taking your Chihuahua out when the temperature is to cold. Never allow your Chihuahua to jump from a high place as he might hurt his joints due to the landing impact. And then she might bark or growl when she is dreaming 

I love watching her when she sleeps she appears to be so soundly asleep its like watching a baby. I remember when she was a puppy I would think she was not breathing in her sleep and constantly check on her to make sure she was. I was like a new mother with her first baby, just like I was when I had both of my sons home from the hospital. I would check her as I did them 

I spent so much time with Miss Mildred as all new furbaby owners do! But I wouldn't let her out of my sight as we have other larger dogs and a swimming pool that is not fenced and even if it was she would have been able to get through it. 

I became a crazy furbaby mumma, Miss Mildred would and still does go with me every where, my constant companion, But gee can this tiny chihuahua snore no matter what way she sleeps she will snore sometimes so loud she will wake herself up and that is funny to watch as well because she looks at me as if to say why did you wake me up for so very cute!

Miss Mildred Furbaby Friend Sleeps Over

 Hello everyone today I would like to talk about 

Miss Mildred and her furbaby friend sleepover.

So just the other weekend we had the pleasure of looking after the handsome and adorable longhaired chihuahua Benji. What a fun time we all had , Oh did I forget to tell you that 

Miss Mildred really has not made friends with other dog that are not in her pack so this was a very interesting time in our household. 

Miss Mildred and Benji first got to see and interact with each other at a chihuahua playdate and Miss Mildred only warmed up to him while her furbrother George just loved running around with all his new furry friends. Little Miss Mildred was so very shy and timid. I would have never thought that she would be like that as she is the boss of all the other dogs in our pack of 6 furbabys so gee it was strange to she her like this but we stayed with her and she just was so interested with little cute Benji,

Now look at him just so very cute, and he is loving cuddly and so so sweet. The big day arrived and baby Benji was dropped off for the weekend now as things progressed Miss Mildred would run away from the 8mth old furbaby Benji   All he wanted to do was play with her so for the first 3 hours it was like a game of tag in the house I had three dogs running around chasing each other! Bugga me it was crazy and funny at the same time. Whenever the little cuddle bug Benji would come and sit with me on my lap 

Miss Mildred would growl show her teeth and she just was not happy with someone else getting cuddles from her mumma! Then it was bed time and as we have a great games room that is where the three furbabies were tucked in for the night it was with a heavy heart I left them to settle down.

I also thought by leaving them alone together they would sort out the doggie stuff!

And to my amazement hooray!! The Furbabys were now friends and we had three more days to play together so now the two chihuahuas were fast fury friends. At this time Sir George thought he would start to not like the new puppy and when the two furbaby chihuahuas started playing  (play fighting) with growling and barking George  thought they were hurting each other and he would come over to try and sort it out hence, He would try to stand over little baby Benji. 

Miss Mildred is a very vocal chihuahua so even though she wasn't being hurt it was distressing of him to hear it, yet its the same sound she makes when playing with him so gee. It was so much fun to have little Benji for the weekend and 

Miss Mildred got to make a new friend.

New Puppy Its Potty Training Time !

   Okay now we have a new puppy in the 

house and well first we 

have to let her get to know her new surrounding ,

so allow your puppy to walk around and smell out 

all the new things in the environment .

House training your puppy is about consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. The goal is to instill smart habits and build a warm bond along with your pet.

It usually takes 4-6 months for a puppy to be absolutely house trained, however some puppies could take up to a year.
